CHAPEL HILL, NORTH CAROLINA — High school basketball recruit Dylan Mingo reopened his recruitment after previously committing to the North Carolina Tar Heels in February 2026. Mingo, a 6-foot-5 point guard from Long Island Lutheran High School in New York, had originally chosen North Carolina over Baylor, Penn State, and Washington.

Mingo made his initial commitment to the Tar Heels under then-head coach Hubert Davis. Michael Malone has since taken over as head coach of the North Carolina program. No comment from the Tar Heels coaching staff was available regarding Mingo's decision to reopen his recruitment.

At the time of his commitment, Mingo described the role he expected to fill in Chapel Hill. "I feel like from Day 1, my role will be a player who impacts winning in every aspect," Mingo said. "Honestly, I am just a person who will give it his all to win a national championship," he added.

Mingo is ranked No. 9 in the SC Next 100 ranking. He was named MVP of the NBA Top 100 Camp last summer after averaging 23.8 points, 6.8 assists, and 6.5 rebounds during the event.

In 12 regular-season games with the PSA Cardinals on the Nike EYBL circuit, Mingo averaged 19.3 points, 7.8 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 2.3 steals per game.

Mingo's development has been interrupted by injuries. He missed most of his high school basketball season because of an ankle injury and did not participate in last summer's Peach Jam, also because of an injury.

With his recruitment now reopened, Baylor, Penn State, and Washington — the other schools he previously considered — could be among programs that re-engage with the point guard as he evaluates his options.
