Dallas Mavericks rookie Cooper Flagg sprained his left ankle during Sunday's regular-season finale against the Chicago Bulls, ending his first NBA season early.

Flagg sustained the injury early in the second quarter of the Mavericks' 149-128 win. He twisted his ankle when he landed after attempting to tip in his own miss between two Bulls defenders. As he hobbled up the court, the Mavericks committed a foul to allow him to exit the game with 10:11 remaining before halftime. He was officially ruled out of the game minutes later.

Flagg, the No. 1 pick in the NBA Draft, finished his rookie season averaging 21.0 points, 5.4 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 1.2 steals over 70 games. He led the Mavericks in total points, rebounds, assists and steals for the season. He finished the season with five fewer blocks than teammate Daniel Gafford.
