PHOENIX — The Phoenix Mercury re-signed veteran guards Kahleah Copper, DeWanna Bonner and Sami Whitcomb on Sunday, retaining three experienced players ahead of the next WNBA season. Copper's deal is for two years, according to a source.

Copper, a four-time WNBA All-Star, completed her second season with Phoenix last year. The 6-foot-1 guard, 31, averaged 15.6 points and 2.9 rebounds during the regular season and 17.8 points per game in the playoffs as the Mercury reached the WNBA Finals. She sat out the first 16 games of the season due to injury and played her first season alongside Satou Sabally and Alyssa Thomas as part of the team's trio. Before joining Phoenix, Copper played seven seasons with the Chicago Sky, winning a WNBA title in 2021.

"Kahleah is a true leader, on and off the court, one of the most explosive athletes in our game and competes with a relentless edge and toughness. Her impact on both ends of the court and ability to deliver in the biggest moments make her truly special," Mercury general manager Nick U'Ren said in a statement.

Bonner, 38, is a six-time All-Star and three-time Sixth Player of the Year with 16 years of WNBA experience. She ranks third in league history in career scoring with 7,807 points, eighth in career rebounds with 3,204, and third in games played with 535. Bonner played for the Mercury from 2009 to 2019, winning two WNBA championships during that span.

Last season, Bonner started with the Indiana Fever, where she appeared in nine games and recorded career lows in points and rebounds. She sat out five games for personal reasons before the Fever waived her. Bonner then signed a one-year contract with Phoenix, where she averaged 10.9 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.0 assists through 24 games.

"Having DeWanna back in a Mercury uniform is incredibly meaningful to our organization. She brings a championship mindset, elite skillset and the kind of leadership that defines winning teams," U'Ren said in a statement.

Whitcomb won WNBA titles with the Seattle Storm in 2018 and 2020. She played in 43 games for Phoenix last season, including 20 starts, and made a team-high 86 three-pointers while averaging 9.1 points, 2.6 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 0.8 steals.
