AUGUSTA, GA. — Sergio García broke his driver on the No. 2 tee at Augusta National Golf Club during the Masters after slamming the club into the turf in frustration. Competitions committee chairman Geoff Yang later issued García a code of conduct warning on the fourth tee.

On the No. 2 tee box, García slammed his club into the turf twice after hitting a shot that ended up in a bunker. He then walked to the back of the tee box and struck his driver against a cooler, snapping the clubhead off the shaft. Under the Rules of Golf, a player is not permitted to replace a club that was damaged through abuse, leaving García without a driver for the remainder of his round.

García made par on the second hole despite the incident. Later on the same hole, he carried fellow Spaniard Jon Rahm's bag while Rahm's caddie was tending a bunker. García and Rahm are both past Masters champions from Spain.

García bogeyed the third hole and followed with another bogey on the fourth. It was on the fourth tee that Yang approached García and issued the code of conduct warning, according to club officials.
