DALLAS — Free agent forward Alanna Smith agreed to a three-year maximum contract with the Dallas Wings, the WNBA team announced. Smith, a 6-foot-4 forward, departed the Minnesota Lynx during the WNBA offseason after a season in which she shared the league's Defensive Player of the Year award.

Smith was named co-Defensive Player of the Year in 2025 alongside A'ja Wilson and earned a selection to the WNBA all-defensive team for the second time. In the previous season with the Lynx, she averaged 9.6 points, 5.1 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 1.9 blocks and 1.3 steals per game.

"As the reigning Co-Defensive Player of the Year, she is one of the top two-way players in the WNBA who consistently impacts both sides of the ball," Wings general manager Curt Miller said. "From a defensive standpoint, Alanna gives our coaching staff unbelievable versatility -- she can play multiple coverages and drastically affect shots around the paint. Offensively -- we are excited to pair her with our outstanding guards, showcasing her ability to play inside or outside."

Smith was originally selected by the Phoenix Mercury in the 2019 WNBA draft. She went on to play for the Indiana Fever and the Chicago Sky before signing with the Lynx in 2024. On the international stage, Smith won a bronze medal with the Australian national team at the 2024 Paris Olympics and was named to the All-Star Five at those Games. She also won an Unrivaled championship with Mist B.C. this offseason.

"This team and this city embraced me and I am so grateful for all the love and support and how this Aussie girl was welcomed with open arms," Smith said.

The Wings also re-signed Arike Ogunbowale and Awak Kuier while adding Jessica Shepard in free agency. The team holds the No. 1 pick in the upcoming WNBA collegiate draft. Smith is represented by Sammy Wloszczowski of the Sports International Group.
