Toronto Blue Jays outfielder George Springer exited Saturday's 7-4 loss to the Minnesota Twins in Toronto after fracturing the big toe on his left foot. Springer fouled a ball off his foot during a third-inning at-bat against Twins starter Joe Ryan and grounded out before leaving the game.

Springer underwent an X-ray at the stadium and then left to undergo a CT scan, Blue Jays manager John Schneider said. "We'll know more in the next couple of days," Schneider said.

Miles Straw pinch-hit for Springer in the sixth inning and finished the game 0-for-2. Springer, a four-time All-Star who served as Toronto's leadoff hitter, entered Saturday's contest batting .189 with two home runs and six RBIs on the season.

Springer was the MVP of the 2017 World Series with the Houston Astros. He is in the final season of a six-year, $150 million contract with the Blue Jays. During the 2025 regular season, Springer hit .309 with 32 home runs and 89 RBIs, and he hit the decisive home run in Game 7 of the 2025 American League Championship Series against the Seattle Mariners.

The injury adds to a lengthy list of sidelined players for the Blue Jays, who held a 6-8 record to start the season. Toronto has nine players on the injured list, including six pitchers. Outfielder Anthony Santander is out with a left shoulder injury, catcher Alejandro Kirk is sidelined with a left thumb injury, and outfielder Addison Barger is on the injured list with a left ankle injury. Pitcher Cody Ponce injured his knee while pursuing a ground ball less than three innings into his first start of the season, and pitcher Trey Yesavage has not yet pitched this season because of a shoulder issue.

Schneider addressed the accumulating injuries across the Toronto roster. "If you try to map out the course of a six-, seven-month season, these things are going to happen," Schneider said. "It's just really unfortunate and weird that these things have happened within the first couple of weeks of the season, but I want the guys to just kind of continue to say, 'OK, what can we do now?'" he added.
