Los Angeles Dodgers third baseman Max Muncy hit three home runs, including a walk-off shot in the ninth inning, to lead the Dodgers to an 8-7 victory over the Texas Rangers. The game was the opener of a series between the past three World Series champions.

Muncy finished the game 4-for-5 with five runs scored and three RBIs, recording a three-homer game for the second time in his career and his 20th career multi-homer game. His first home run, in the second inning, was his 211th career home run as a Dodger. His second home run moved him past Steve Garvey for sole possession of third place on the Dodgers' career home run list, giving him 213 career home runs with the franchise. He now trails only Ron Cey, who hit 228, and Eric Karros, who hit 270.

The walk-off home run was Muncy's sixth career walk-off homer and his seventh walk-off RBI with the Dodgers. He became the second player in Dodgers history to hit three home runs in a game including a walk-off, joining Don Demeter, who accomplished the feat in 1959. He was also the first player in Major League Baseball to do so since Jack Suwinski on June 19, 2022.

"To get the win on top of it, it's great," Muncy said. "I've always said when I can drive the ball to left-center, that's when my swing is at my best."

Dodgers closer Edwin Díaz blew his first save in six appearances, allowing three runs in the ninth inning that tied the score at 7-7 before Muncy's walk-off. Andy Pages also contributed at the plate, going 3-for-3 with four RBIs, including a two-run home run and a two-run, go-ahead double in the sixth inning. The victory improved the Dodgers' record to 10-3 on the season.

Muncy, 35, is now in his ninth season with the Dodgers, making him the longest-tenured current player on the roster. The team gave him a one-year contract extension in the offseason that keeps him under team control through 2028. He entered spring training 17 pounds lighter after modifying his offseason diet, including cutting back on bread, and emphasized mobility and running over strength training to improve his range.

On the last day of the 2021 regular season, Muncy suffered a torn ulnar collateral ligament and a dislocated left elbow in a collision at first base, an injury that caused him to miss the entire 2021 postseason and required slow rehabilitation into the start of 2022.
