MAJORCA — Iga Swiatek began working with new coach Francisco Roig at Rafael Nadal's tennis academy in Majorca. The reigning Wimbledon champion and four-time French Open winner confirmed the partnership on Instagram.

Swiatek, currently ranked world number four, turned to Roig after parting ways with coach Wim Fissette following a first-round loss at the Miami Open in March 2026. Fissette had helped Swiatek win her first Wimbledon title during their time together.

The coaching change followed a series of early exits for the 24-year-old Polish player. Swiatek was eliminated at the quarterfinal stage of both the 2026 Australian Open and the 2026 Indian Wells tournament. At the 2025 French Open, she lost a set 6-0 to Aryna Sabalenka in the semifinals at a venue where she had won four titles between 2020 and 2024.

After her split with Fissette, Swiatek reached out to Nadal in March 2026 to discuss her coaching situation. Swiatek has often contacted Nadal for advice throughout her career. That connection led her to Roig, who spent 17 years as part of Nadal's coaching setup.

Nadal was present on court alongside Swiatek and Roig at the academy and offered first-hand advice during their initial training sessions.

Roig worked alongside Toni Nadal and Carlos Moya as part of a coaching team during his 17 years with Rafael Nadal. He was credited with developing technical changes for Nadal over the course of that tenure. Before joining Swiatek, Roig most recently coached Emma Raducanu for a five-month period between 2025 and 2026.

Swiatek holds six major singles titles, including four French Open crowns and one Wimbledon championship.
