Swansea City are considering offering midfielder Ethan Galbraith a new contract as a reward for his contribution this term. Manager Vitor Matos said he hopes Galbraith will be a Swansea player for the next 10 years.

Galbraith signed for Swansea from Leyton Orient last summer on a contract running until 2028 with the option of a further year. He has since made 44 appearances for the club in his first campaign as a Championship player.

"I think he's a player we want to see in Swansea for the next 10 years, so let's see how long we can sign the contract," Matos said.

Matos said he will not discuss individual player contracts until they are finalised internally. When asked about the club's approach to contract discussions more broadly, he said: "I think in these kinds of situations the manager needs to have the first and the last word, but in the middle there's a lot of discussion that happens where there needs to be a collective approach."

Galbraith has also received recognition on the international stage. Northern Ireland manager Michael O'Neill said Galbraith was the best player on the pitch in a friendly against Wales on Tuesday. Galbraith also drew praise for his performance in a World Cup play-off semifinal against Italy last week.

Galbraith's fitness ahead of Swansea's trip to Bramall Lane is being assessed after he returned from Northern Ireland duty complaining of a calf problem. No comment from Galbraith or his representatives was available regarding the potential new deal.
