MEXICO CITY — Lewis Hamilton qualified in pole position for the Mexico City Grand Prix on Saturday with a lap time of 1m 16.514s. George Russell qualified in second place with a lap time of 1m 16.523s, 0.009s behind Hamilton.

This is Lewis Hamilton's first pole position with Ferrari and his 105th career pole position. It is also his first pole position since the 2023 Hungarian Grand Prix. The top five qualifiers were separated by less than 0.2 seconds.

"Oh man, I'm lost for words. We've really done a good job with the set-up over the weekend. We've really worked, we've learned a lot from the last race. Wow, to have pole here, I mean, I don't even know if I've had a pole here before. So it feels special to be in Mexico and get that. My first, I think this is my first pole with Ferrari. And 105.. I like that number," Hamilton said.

Hamilton said to his team via radio: "I hope you’re proud of yourselves too. You’ve got to keep pushing. We’re on the right track but… woo! Such a good feeling."

Oscar Piastri qualified in 13th place after being eliminated in Q2 and reported having "no rear grip" during his laps.
