CASTLEFORD — Wakefield Trinity defeated Castleford Tigers 34-0 in an Adam Watene Trophy Super League match at the OneBore Stadium in Castleford.

Wakefield moved to fourth place on 10 points, level with Warrington, Leeds, Wigan and St Helens. Castleford remained bottom of the table on four points and last on points difference.

Wakefield built a lead before halftime with three first-half tries. Jake Trueman opened the scoring, and Corey Hall stepped past Darnell McIntosh before scoring from short range. Debutant Tray Lolesio then made a carry that led to a try by Tyson Smoothy. Oliver Pratt spilled the ball forward under contest with Zac Cini before the break.

A video referee disallowed a try by Castleford's Jason Qareqare in the second half, determining he had a foot in touch before grounding the ball. Joe Stimson was then penalised for infringing at the breakdown, and Max Jowitt kicked the resulting penalty goal.

Wakefield added four more tries in the second half. Trueman scored his second from a counter-attack, while Jowitt passed to Pratt, who dived over in the corner. Cam Scott crossed for an untouched try, and a misplaced pass by Mason Lino found Pratt in space for his second. Sam Hall lost the ball forward as he reached for the try line. Jowitt kicked three goals in total. Lino returned to action for Wakefield in the match, and Liam Rush served as referee.

"You never get a perfect game but that's as good as we've been this year. Towards the end of the second half we looked more clinical and I thought our edge defenders were outstanding. The contact side of the game was good – really punchy and aggressive and there were periods where we completely dominated territory and off the back of that errors came from Castleford," Wakefield head coach Daryl Powell said.

Castleford head coach Ryan Carr said: "Until [Jason] Qareqare's try was disallowed, it felt like a close fight and then for whatever reason momentum swung against us and too many people became victims and felt sorry for themselves in that moment. It's concerning that certain individuals can play the way they played 10 days ago [against Bradford] and then today look like different people. It's something I've got to get to the bottom of."
