NEW YORK — The documentary “You Can See Everything” premiered at the New York Film Festival on Wednesday. Directed by Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim, the film documents the 34 days before Elizabeth Holmes reported to prison. Nathan Fielder said: “I wouldn’t think I’d be the person you would want for your final period. I’m a nice person, I do believe, but I’m not the most comforting.”
Elizabeth Holmes invited Fielder and Oppenheim into her home to film the documentary. Fielder lived with Holmes and Billy Evans during the filming. Evans is Holmes’ partner. The couple has two children.
Fielder said, “When I met her, I remember having this weird experience where she seems so genuine at times. But then I’m like, ‘no,’ and clocking and tracking my thoughts and being like, ‘Okay, I know she’s a liar.’” He added, “I cannot tell you how weird it was that we were there.” Lance Oppenheim said, “Every person that worked on this movie was going through a similar feeling of cognitive dissonance.” In the documentary teaser, Holmes said, “I don’t have anything to deceive you on. Of course I’m not deceiving you. I’m engaging with you as a human being. Why would I deceive you? There’s no reason for me to do that.”
Holmes founded the medical testing company Theranos. The company was valued at $4.5 billion at its peak before collapsing due to allegations of fraudulent practices. Holmes was initially charged with 12 counts of fraud and conspiracy in 2018.
She was convicted on four felony counts of fraud and conspiracy by a U.S. District Court in 2022. Holmes is serving an 11-year prison sentence for fraud. She maintained her innocence despite her conviction. Holmes posted a message on X stating she was silenced for a long time and imprisoned. She stated in an X post that posts signed “-EAH” are in her own words.
