TELLURIDE, COLO. — The documentary "You Can See Everything" premiered at the Telluride Film Festival on Sunday night. The film documents Elizabeth Holmes and her partner Billy Evans in the days before Holmes entered federal prison in 2023.

Co-directed by Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim, the 174-minute feature captures interactions at a rental home in San Diego where Fielder lived in the couple’s guest house during filming. A24 is the distributor of the project and plans to release it in theaters in October.

Filming began 34 days before Holmes reported to prison in May 2023. She is currently housed at Federal Prison Camp Bryan in Texas after being sentenced to 11 years and three months in prison.

Holmes maintains in the documentary that she never lied in the launching of Theranos. In the trailer, she states, "I’m not that person. I can promise you that. I don’t have anything to deceive you on; of course I’m not deceiving you. I’m engaging with you as a human being. Why would I deceive you? There’s no reason for me to do that." She adds, "I’m always being real." Fielder asks her, "You’re being real right now?" and replies, "OK. Alright. OK, good chat."

The documentary shows Holmes crying on the phone while learning about her prison living conditions. She asks, "What is an invasive strip search?" Footage also depicts Holmes rocking her baby in a bouncer with her leg. Holmes has two children with Evans: William, who is 5 years old, and Invicta, who is 3 years old. Invicta was born in February 2023.

Holmes and Evans are shown making calls to prospective partners to launch a "Theranos 2.0" business. Evans admitted to posting from Holmes’ official X account as if he were her. Portions of the documentary featuring off-camera communication between Fielder and Holmes in prison are re-created with an actress. Fielder asked attendees not to reveal the identity of the actress portraying Holmes in prison scenes.

Fielder said to the crowd before the screening, "For those of you who don’t know who we are and are disappointed, I apologize. But hopefully by the end of this film, you’ll be less disappointed." The Q&A session was moderated by actor Emma Stone. Fielder said Holmes and Evans had not yet seen the film.

The Telluride Film Festival required audience members to stow their phones in secure Yondr pouches during the screening. The event took place in the 650-seat Werner Herzog Theater. A24 dropped the trailer for "You Can See Everything" online during the screening. Holmes’ X account shared the trailer with the caption, "I’m always being real."

Why It Matters

The documentary revisits the legal case against Holmes, who founded Theranos in 2003 at age 19. Prosecutors said Holmes lied to investors from 2010 to 2015. Holmes promised Theranos’ technology could run many medical tests on a single drop of blood from a finger prick.

A jury found Holmes guilty of one count of conspiracy and three counts of wire fraud in connection with a scheme to defraud investors in Theranos, Inc. Holmes was ordered to pay $452 million in restitution. Her appeals to overturn her conviction were rejected in February 2025. Holmes filed a clemency petition with President Trump that remains pending. She is eligible for release on December 30, 2031.
