MORGAN HILL — The Federal Bureau of Investigation has joined the investigation into a fatal shooting that occurred at an unsanctioned party in Morgan Hill, California. The bureau is offering a reward of up to $20,000 for information leading to the identification and arrest of those responsible for the incident.

Desi Romero, a teenager from San Jose, was shot and killed at the event on July 25. Six other people were injured in the shooting and have since been released from the hospital.

The shooting took place at an unsanctioned party organized to celebrate a birthday. Hundreds of attendees were present at the gathering, which was advertised on social media by a San Jose-based influencer.

The party occurred at a rural property along Hale Avenue near Morgan Hill. The event was held in an open field at Hale and Miramonte avenues around 10:15 p.m. on Saturday.

Multiple law enforcement agencies responded to the scene following reports of gunfire. The Morgan Hill Police Department, Gilroy Police Department, California Highway Patrol, and San Jose Police Department provided first aid, scene security, traffic control, and investigative work.

Santa Clara County Sheriff Robert Jonsen addressed the large number of witnesses who were present during the incident. "With hundreds of people in attendance, someone knows something," Jonsen said in a statement.

FBI San Francisco Special Agent in Charge Scott Schelble explained the purpose of the financial incentive offered to the public. "The FBI is offering a reward of up to $20,000 because we believe someone has information that can help move this investigation forward," Schelble said in a statement.

Investigators have established multiple channels for the public to submit tips and evidence related to the shooting. The FBI launched a website at FBI.gov/MorganHillShooting for submitting digital media evidence such as videos and photos linked to the event.
