Houston police are investigating after a body was recovered from Brays Bayou in southeast Houston on Wednesday morning, July 22, 2026. Emergency responders were called to the 4500 block of Martin Luther King Boulevard around 7:05 a.m. after a report of a body floating in the water.

Emergency responders recovered the body and pronounced the person dead at the scene. Authorities have not released the identity of the deceased person, and the cause and manner of death remain under investigation.

This recovery follows another death near the same waterway two days earlier. On Monday, July 20, 2026, officers were called to the 7200 block of J.W. Peavy Drive after a person was found unconscious near Brays Bayou.

The victim found unconscious on July 20 was pronounced dead at the scene. The Houston Police Department’s Homicide Division launched an investigation into the death that occurred on July 20.

Investigators have not stated whether the body recovery on July 22 is connected to the homicide investigation from July 20. The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences has publicly requested assistance in identifying an unidentified man found in Brays Bayou on December 22, 2025, showing ongoing challenges with corpse identification in the area.
