ORION TOWNSHIP — A residential structure fire occurred in the 2900 block of Meadowbrook Court in Orion Township on July 10, 2026. A 911 caller reported two boys trapped on the second floor of the home and unable to escape shortly before 5 p.m.

Deputy Brandon Musse of the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office was the first to arrive at the scene at 4:52 p.m. He observed the boys in an upstairs window as smoke began to fill the home. Musse placed a trash receptacle beneath the window to reach the children and helped them through the window, lowering them safely to the ground.

Paramedics transported the 10-year-old boy and his 12-year-old brother, both Orion Township residents, to Trinity Health Hospital. The boys were treated for smoke inhalation and released the same day. Firefighters from the Orion Township Fire Department entered the residence and rescued the family dog, then extinguished the fire before it could spread further.

Oakland County Sheriff Michael J. Bouchard praised Deputy Musse’s actions, saying, "Deputy Musse immediately recognized that every second mattered." Bouchard added, "His ability to rapidly assess the situation, improvise with the tools available and act without hesitation allowed these two young boys to escape what could have become a tragic situation." He also stated, "This incident could have had a far different outcome."

The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office released video of Deputy Musse’s rescue operation on July 14, 2026, and commended the coordinated response of Musse, responding deputies, and the Orion Township Fire Department. The fire remains under investigation.
