CHATTANOOGA — Ka Yun Markul Green was arrested on Thursday, July 9, 2026, following a brief police chase. The 20-year-old faces charges of attempted first-degree murder, reckless endangerment with a weapon, and possession of a firearm during the course of a dangerous felony in connection with a May 11 shooting in Chattanooga.

A shooting occurred on May 11, 2026, in front of the Grove Street Market, where a bystander sustained a gunshot wound to the left lower leg. The injured man was transported to a hospital, and his condition was listed as non-life threatening.

Surveillance video captured two Black males shooting at each other from across the street outside the market. One suspect had short hair, wore a black Northface jacket, white shirt, black pants, and black shoes, and had distinctive tattoos on his face, forehead, and throat. The second suspect had long dreadlocks and wore a white shirt, a gray shirt around his neck, black pants, and white shoes.

After the shooting, a woman reported to police that a Black male threatened her with a firearm and entered the back seat of her vehicle. The woman stated the man pressed a firearm into her right side and told her to drive. She drove the suspect to the Ridgeway Apartments, where he exited the vehicle, and then returned to the Grove Street Market to report the incident to police. Surveillance footage confirmed that the second suspect entered the woman’s car and later exited at the Ridgeway Apartments parking lot.

According to a bystander, the shooting stemmed from a physical altercation that occurred approximately 20 minutes earlier. Police confirmed via video that the two men involved in that earlier altercation were the same two men who participated in the shooting.

Green, who resides at 3715 7th Ave., was taken into custody without further incident following the July 9 chase.
