CHATTANOOGA — Dominique Lavon Boyd was sentenced to 70 months in federal prison on July 13, 2026. The sentence stems from a high-speed chase in Chattanooga on July 28, 2025, during which Boyd, then 19 years old, discarded a firearm while evading law enforcement.

U.S. District Judge Travis McDonough presided over the sentencing. Boyd’s federal sentence will run concurrently with any sentence he may receive in Hamilton County, where the underlying events occurred. Chattanooga is a city in Hamilton County, Tennessee.

The incident began when a county deputy attempted to pull over a Nissan Murano driven by Boyd in Hixson after receiving a report that the vehicle had been stolen earlier that day. Boyd continued driving after the deputy activated blue lights and a siren, initiating a pursuit.

During the chase, Boyd turned into a Jimmy John’s parking lot and drove the wrong way through the drive-thru. He then jumped a curb onto Northpoint Boulevard toward Highway 153, driving at high speeds, running red lights, and using opposite lanes of travel to pass vehicles.

At a Weigel’s gas station on Highway 153, Boyd threw a Glock handgun out of his vehicle window. A civilian later recovered the firearm and turned it over to law enforcement. Officers eventually stopped Boyd using a PIT maneuver in Soddy Daisy.

Boyd is a felon with a prior aggravated robbery conviction. His status as a convicted felon in possession of a firearm contributed to the federal charges that resulted in the 70-month sentence.
