SEATTLE — The Khosla family entered into a formal agreement to purchase the Seattle Seahawks from the Paul G. Allen Estate for $9.612 billion, the parties announced on Saturday, July 11, 2026. The deal, which would make the Khosla family the controlling owner of the franchise, is subject to approval by NFL owners, who are expected to vote on the matter in August 2026.
As part of the agreement, the Khosla family is required to relinquish its ownership stake in the San Francisco 49ers. Vinod Khosla had purchased a 3.1% minority stake in the 49ers in 2025. The Seahawks compete in the National Football League as a member of the NFC West and have played their home games at Lumen Field in Seattle’s SoDo neighborhood since 2002. Their lease at the stadium runs through 2032, with three 10-year renewal options.
Vinod Khosla, an Indian-American billionaire entrepreneur and venture capitalist, is the founder of Khosla Ventures and co-founder of Sun Microsystems. His net worth is reported to be $13.7 billion. In a statement issued on July 11, he said, “We are honored to be entrusted as the next stewards of the Seattle Seahawks.” He added, “We look forward to building on the winning legacy Paul Allen created and to earning the trust of the Seahawks organization and fans everywhere.”
Neeru Khosla is part of the ownership group and would serve as controlling owner, while Neal Khosla is expected to hold a significant leadership role. The sale represents a record valuation for an NFL franchise, surpassing the $6.05 billion paid for the Washington Commanders in 2023. Paul Allen originally bought the Seahawks for $194 million in 1997 and owned the team until his death in 2018; the franchise has remained under the control of his estate since then. Jody Allen served as the executor of Paul Allen’s trust during the ownership transition.
Investment bank Allen & Company LLC and law firm Latham & Watkins led the sales process for the Seahawks. The team’s recent success includes a Super Bowl victory over the New England Patriots in February 2026.
Why It Matters
The $9.612 billion price tag marks the highest valuation ever for an NFL team, reflecting the league’s growing media revenue and franchise values. The transaction also represents a major shift in ownership for a team that has been under the Allen family or estate for nearly three decades, following a period of on-field success including a recent Super Bowl win.
