LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles Dodgers and the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation announced that proceeds from a 50/50 raffle during their July 7, 2026, game against the Colorado Rockies will go to relief efforts for Venezuelan communities affected by recent earthquakes. The team will match the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation's contribution to the relief effort.

Net proceeds from the raffle will be donated to the American Red Cross Venezuela Earthquakes Fund, which provides emergency medical care, food assistance, clean water, shelter, sanitation, and other humanitarian aid. Fans attending the Wednesday game at Dodger Stadium can buy raffle tickets from sellers throughout the ballpark or at kiosks until the end of the seventh inning. One-half of the raffle jackpot will be awarded to the winning ticket holder.

Two earthquakes struck Venezuela on June 24, 2026, about 100 miles west of Caracas. Approximately 3,000 people have been reported dead in the aftermath. Los Angeles Dodgers catcher Eliezer Alfonzo's stepmother, Patricia, and younger sister, Eliana, died in the earthquakes. Alfonzo learned of the deaths hours before his Major League Baseball debut.

Alfonzo recounted a conversation with his sister, stating, "Three weeks ago, (Eliana) told me she had a beautiful dream, but she wasn't going to tell me anything until the dream came true." He added, "I'm pretty sure the dream was something about this." He also said, "I wish she was alive to watch me play in the big leagues, but I know she's in God's eyes now."

Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Miguel Rojas' wife and children were in Venezuela during the earthquakes but were unharmed. Rojas expressed support for Alfonzo, saying, "This is the dream of his sister, his father, his whole family, and he's been working really hard to get this opportunity." Rojas also noted the difficulty of the situation, stating, "I'm proud of the way he approached everything that happened to him, but at the same time, it's hard to put this moment into context, because it's never easy to lose a family member, especially when something like that happens."

Dodgers relievers Brusdar Graterol and Edgardo Henriquez are also Venezuelan. Los Angeles Dodgers players wear "VZ" embroidered on their hats to honor players with Venezuelan roots. The Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation has invested more than $80 million in programs and grants for education, health, homelessness prevention, and social justice initiatives in Los Angeles.
