SHARPSTOWN — A man in his late 30s was arrested in Sharpstown on July 10, 2026, after allegedly cutting his brother's throat during a family disturbance and engaging in a prolonged standoff with police. The man faces charges of aggravated assault of a family member.

Police responded to a home in the 7700 block of Hornwood following reports of a family disturbance. Authorities said the suspect argued with family members before producing two knives and cutting his brother, who is in his late 40s, in the throat. Family members called 911, and the brother received treatment for his injuries, which were not considered life-threatening. Police do not believe the brother was transported to a hospital.

Patrol officers found the suspect outside the residence armed with a knife upon their arrival. The suspect refused commands to surrender and re-entered the home. The Patrol Support Team secured the scene, and SWAT and the Hostage Negotiation Team were called to the location. Negotiators spent hours attempting to persuade the suspect to exit the residence peacefully. Police stated that the suspect repeatedly declined to surrender during these negotiations. Officers subsequently breached a window and deployed a drone inside the home to locate the suspect and confirm his condition. A robotic dog was also sent into the house during the standoff. Authorities then deployed CS gas into the home.

The suspect eventually exited the residence without injuries and was taken into custody by SWAT officers. Police recovered one knife from the scene. Investigators confirmed that no hostages were present inside the home during the standoff. The suspect lived at the residence with his brother, his brother's wife, and their two children. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
