Yoav Shriker, a former soldier in the IDF Yahalom Combat Engineers unit, died on July 7, 2026, in Israel at the age of 29 after battling cancer for over two-and-a-half years. Shriker set two Israeli records during his life.

Shriker ran a half marathon while carrying 35 kg, and he also ran a full marathon carrying 32 kg. He and his brother competed for a spot on Israel's team for the international ice water swimming championship.

Friends of Yoav Shriker stated, "In two years of illness, Yoav managed to do things that other people haven't done in a lifetime." Friends also reported that he continued intense physical training while ill. "The day after a six-week radiation session, he went for a 60-kilometer run while he was suffering from cancer," a friend said. "From there, he continued to train to break more records, and his workouts included towing cars with a rope, CrossFit workouts in the basement of his house, running with a weighted vest in the sea, and swimming in ice water," friends said.

Shriker collaborated with the University of Hong Kong to develop methods for detecting mouth cancer. He also collected information on the effects of lifestyle changes on his own body. "He examined the effects of lifestyle changes on his own body and compiled the information with complete hope and faith that he could help and even save the next patient who would receive the terrible diagnosis of cancer," his friends said. He also volunteered with the Scouts as a guide and mentor, and he worked with children.

Shriker founded a company prior to his death. Friends said he had many other projects and a great vision for the company he founded.
