FORT WORTH, TEXAS — The Texas Longhorns defeated the Michigan Wolverines 77-41 in the Elite Eight of the 2026 NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas on March 30, 2026. The victory advanced Texas to their second Final Four since 2003.

Michigan struggled offensively throughout the game, shooting 22.8% from the field and 13.3% from three-point range. The Wolverines shot 21% from the floor in the first half and 25% from three-point range during that period. Texas held Michigan's leading scorer Olivia Olson, who averages 19 points per game, to just two points.

Texas shot 52% from the floor in the first half despite going 0-for-7 on three-point attempts. The Longhorns dominated inside, scoring 36 paint points and out-rebounding Michigan 49 to 32.

Michigan's 15 turnovers resulted in 19 points for Texas. "Well, that was a tough game for us. Obviously, we're extremely disappointed. Texas is a great team, but we're a better team than we looked tonight," said Kim Barnes Arico, head coach of the Michigan Wolverines.

Barnes Arico explained the team's defensive adjustments that backfired. "We tried to go zone a little bit to give them that look, and that's kind of what we did against Louisville, but we were able to rebound out of it. We weren't able to rebound out of it. And then I think that really deflated us," she said.

Texas head coach Vic Schaefer praised Michigan after the victory. "That is a heck of a team, coach had done a great job there, they are young and they will be back," Schaefer said.

"Our defense just gets us going," said Rori Harmon, graduate point guard. "I feel like I am almost responsible for that defensive mindset side of the team," Harmon added.

Madison Booker was named Most Outstanding Player of the Fort Worth Regional All-Tournament Team. Olivia Olson, Syla Swords, Rori Harmon, and Jordan Lee were also named to the All-Tournament Team.

The Longhorns will play fellow No. 1 seed UCLA in the Final Four on April 3, 2026, in Phoenix, with the game broadcast on ESPN.
