HOUSTON — Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston has launched its annual back-to-school supply drive. The donation drive will continue through August 7, 2026.

Donations can be delivered to multiple locations. The central office at 2900 Louisiana Street in Houston accepts donations Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Guadalupe Center, located at 325 Jenson Street in Houston, accepts donations on Monday and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

In Galveston, the Beacon of Hope Center at 4700 Broadway, Suite F-103, operates as a drop-off point Monday through Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. In Richmond, the Mamie George Community Center at 1111 Collins Road accepts donations on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

According to AdoptAClassroom, teachers in Texas spent an average of $935 out of pocket on school supplies for the 2024-2025 school year. The organization's 2025 Teacher Spending Survey found that teachers spent an average of $895 out of pocket on school supplies during the 2024-2025 school year. The median school supply budget is $200, AdoptAClassroom stated, but 97% of educators indicated this budget does not meet their students' needs. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported in August 2025 that prices for educational books and supplies increased by 9.4% compared to the previous year. AdoptAClassroom's 2026 Teacher Impact Survey found that more than 93% of teachers reported having students whose families cannot afford all necessary school supplies. This survey also indicated that 81% of teachers stated they purchase supplies to ensure all students have identical opportunities in the classroom. The survey also detailed specific items teachers acquire: 82% purchased paper, pencils, and markers; 66% bought food; and 64% invested in books and inclusive materials.
