TEL AVIV — A masked individual shattered the main entrance of Haaretz's Tel Aviv office with bricks on Wednesday morning, July 8, 2026. Security footage from the incident showed the individual reaching through entrance grates before throwing two bricks at a glass door.

The bricks created a hole in the glass entrance door, and the individual then left the scene. Following the incident, Haaretz filed a complaint with the police and is increasing security measures at the building's entrance. The newspaper issued a statement affirming its intention to "will continue to fulfill its professional and public mission to practice free and independent journalism - and will not surrender to these violent attempts of intimidation and silencing."

The incident at Haaretz followed a previous event on Sunday, July 5, 2026, when the glass entrance to Channel 12 in Tel Aviv was also shattered. Michal Peylan, a Channel 12 welfare reporter, commented on the events via X/Twitter, writing: "Every sane person, whose heart has not yet been completely destroyed and whose eyes have been completely blinded by hatred, hopes to understand how dangerous it is to live in a country where the government, its head, the minister responsible for the media, and the minister responsible for the security of citizens will not say a word today about the insane violence against journalists. (And will also continue to incite against them, of course)."

MK Naama Lazimi issued a statement concerning the attacks, stating: "We are no longer in the 'preview,' We are in the midst of civil terror fueled by the government against Israeli democracy." She added, "The regime's machine of poison and incitement is being translated on the ground into operational orders for incited lawbreakers, with one clear goal: to shut mouths, eliminate the free and independent press, and turn Israel into a dark dictatorship."
