KENTUCKY — The FBI arrested former college basketball player Kerr Kriisa in Kentucky on July 5, 2026, in connection with a multimillion-dollar fraud scheme. The scheme is linked to Kriisa's time at West Virginia.

Kriisa, 25, is a native of Estonia and is being extradited to West Virginia. He has a court hearing scheduled for the week following July 5, 2026. Prior to his arrest, Kriisa was announced as a participant for the team "La Familia" in The Basketball Tournament on June 29, 2026. He will not compete for "La Familia" following his arrest.

Kriisa played college basketball for Arizona, West Virginia, Kentucky, and Cincinnati, exhausting his collegiate eligibility after the 2025-26 season. During his college career, he averaged 8.8 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 4.4 assists over 127 games, starting 106 of them and averaging 28.1 minutes per game.

Kriisa played three seasons at Arizona, joining as part of Sean Miller's final recruiting class. He missed the first 19 games of his freshman season due to NCAA eligibility issues related to prior professional compensation, as he played professionally in Lithuania and Germany before Arizona. He started 65 games across the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons for Arizona. In the 2022-23 season, he played in all 35 games, made 34 starts, averaged 9.9 points and 2.4 rebounds per game, led the Pac-12 in assists with 5.14 per game, and tied for the team lead with 83 made 3-pointers.

Kriisa played one season at West Virginia during the 2023-24 academic year, where he served a nine-game suspension for receiving impermissible benefits at Arizona. In that season, he started all 23 appearances and averaged 11.0 points per game. He then played one season at Kentucky during the 2024-25 academic year, averaging 4.4 points and 3.8 assists in nine contests before a foot injury ended his season. His collegiate career concluded with one season at Cincinnati in the 2025-26 academic year, where he averaged 5.8 points in 19 games, missing parts of the season due to a shoulder injury.

Kriisa is named after Steve Kerr. Reports had indicated he planned to play professional basketball in Estonia after college.
