INGRAM — Rental property manager Eddie Matthews evacuated approximately 75 people from two properties in Ingram on July 4, 2025. Matthews rescued a man from a toppled cabin adjacent to one of the properties. Major repairs were performed at Casa Blanca's main house and the River Oaks Lodge property, which reopened by spring break 2026.

Matthews stated that floodwater reached the top of the second-floor balcony at River Oaks Lodge. "The water had reached all the way up to that top," Matthews said. "And then the cars that were out here were completely underwater." He noted his goal was to reopen the properties by spring break. The properties are currently booked at about 75% of their normal summertime capacity.

Reflecting on the personal impact of the events, Matthews said, "Every time the phone would ring, even a few months ago, I would hold my breath." He added that he helped the man he rescued move into an apartment in Kerrville. Matthews operates Stay Hill Country, which manages the properties.
