SIOUX FALLS — The Kane County Cougars defeated the Sioux Falls Canaries 11-10 on Sunday evening at the Birdcage in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The victory completed a three-game series sweep for Kane County.
Kane County scored three runs in the first inning on a home run. Sioux Falls responded with two runs in the bottom of the second inning, including a two-out solo home run by Anthony Sharkas. TJ Racherbaumer walked and scored on a double by Mason Minzey.
In the top of the third inning, a two-out error allowed an additional run for Kane County. The Cougars added another run in the fourth inning on an RBI sacrifice fly, holding a 5-2 lead after four innings. Sioux Falls then sent 12 batters to the plate in one inning, scoring eight runs to take the lead. During the rally, Josh Rehwaldt doubled and scored on a double by Mike Hart. Trevor Achenbach was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, and Joe Vos tied the game with a single. Anthony Hall hit a three-run double to give Sioux Falls an 8-5 lead. Rehwaldt also hit a single that drove in two runs during the inning.
Kane County scored on an RBI sacrifice fly in the fifth inning and hit a two-run home run in the eighth inning to narrow the deficit. Entering the ninth inning trailing 10-8, the Cougars scored three runs. A leadoff triple scored on a sacrifice fly, and Kane County took the lead with a two-run single.
In the bottom of the ninth, Anthony Hall led off with a base hit and reached second base on a sacrifice bunt. An intentional walk placed the potential winning run on base for Sioux Falls, and a wild pitch moved both runners into scoring position. A strikeout ended the rally. Joe Vos, Anthony Hall, and Josh Rehwaldt each finished the game with two hits. The loss brought the Sioux Falls Canaries overall record to 19-21.
