Seattle Mariners player Julio Rodriguez was removed from a game against the Los Angeles Angels on Thursday night after being hit in the back of the helmet by a thrown ball. The incident occurred in the first inning on July 2, 2026.

Rodriguez was running from first to second base on a ground ball when Angels first baseman Nolan Schanuel fielded the ball and threw toward second base, striking Rodriguez in the helmet. Following the errant throw, Rodriguez advanced to third. Mariners manager Dan Wilson and a team athletic trainer checked on Rodriguez after the play.

Rodriguez remained in the game through the top of the second inning, playing in the field, before Victor Robles replaced him in the top of the third inning. During the first inning, Angels starter Walbert Ureña walked Rodriguez. Dominic Canzone then grounded into a double play attempt. Walbert Ureña later hit Randy Arozarena with a pitch, and Josh Naylor grounded into a double play to end the inning.

Other substitutions and incidents occurred later in the game. Victor Robles was hit by a 98 mph sinker on the forearm in the bottom of the third inning. Weston Wilson replaced Victor Robles in center field during the top of the fifth inning; when Wilson entered the game, Luke Raley moved into center field and Weston Wilson took over in right field. Rodriguez played in 160 games last season and has appeared in 87 of Seattle's 88 games this season.
