MELBOURNE — Darweish Mohamed died at the scene outside the Craigieburn Community Hospital on Wednesday night after being found with critical wounds. Police charged a 16-year-old boy from Victoria’s Goulburn Valley region with murder in connection with Mohamed's death.

Mohamed, who was a student at Mount Ridley College, was found with wounds at approximately 7:50 pm. A staff member from the Craigieburn Community Hospital delivered CPR to Mohamed after his discovery. Police arrested the 16-year-old boy and a 20-year-old man in Pascoe Vale early Thursday. The 16-year-old murder suspect was remanded in custody and is expected to appear in a children’s court.

Separately, the 20-year-old man from Beveridge was charged with criminal damage by fire. He was granted bail and is scheduled to appear at the Broadmeadows Magistrates Court on December 1. Police are investigating a potential link between a burnt-out car found at Oaklands Junction and the stabbing incident.

On Friday morning, a 15-year-old boy from Craigieburn was arrested and interviewed by police. In response to the death, the Victoria Education Department confirmed it would provide support to affected school communities. A spokesperson for the Victoria Education Department stated, "The death of any young person is a tragedy." The spokesperson added that "The death of the young person in a violent incident on Wednesday will be extremely distressing for the local communities involved."

Mohamed Bakhit launched a GoFundMe campaign to assist Darweish Mohamed’s family with funeral expenses. By Friday morning, the campaign had raised over $37,000 toward a $60,000 goal.
