CHAMPAIGN — Illinois will meet Purdue for the 200th time in basketball during the upcoming season. The university will also renew its football rivalry with Missouri in 2027 and maintain annual matchups against Northwestern in both football and basketball.

The upcoming basketball season will feature Illinois playing Purdue at both Mackey Arena and the State Farm Center. The Illinois and Purdue basketball series began during the 1905-06 season. Previously, Illinois and Purdue played basketball twice annually before Big Ten expansion, but the rivalry was not protected in the previous season. In football, Illinois and Purdue have a protected rivalry that guarantees an annual game, and their all-time football series is separated by one game.

Illinois and Missouri's football series is scheduled to resume in 2027 after being on hiatus since 2010. Missouri won six consecutive football meetings against Illinois before the hiatus. The first football game between Illinois and Missouri took place in 1896, and the overall rivalry between the two universities dates to 1932. The Braggin' Rights basketball game between Illinois and Missouri has been played annually in St. Louis since 1976.

Illinois and Northwestern will continue their annual football game, with the Land of Lincoln Trophy awarded to the winner. Illinois holds a 59-55 advantage over Northwestern in all-time football series results. The teams first played football in 1892 and tied their first two matchups. In 1894, Illinois defeated Northwestern 66-0 in a football game in Champaign. In basketball, Illinois plays Northwestern twice every season. Their first basketball game occurred on March 7, 1908, when Illinois defeated Northwestern 18-13. Illinois won six consecutive basketball games against Northwestern after their initial meeting.

In addition to these matchups, Illinois will play Wisconsin twice in basketball in the upcoming season. Illinois and Wisconsin met once in basketball during the previous season. Illinois does not play Indiana, Iowa, or Wisconsin annually in football.
