LA QUINTA — A spokeswoman for Phil Mickelson issued a statement to PEOPLE on July 2, 2026, addressing allegations detailed in a Skratch article by Alan Shipnuck published on June 28, 2026. The statement described the article as an "anonymously sourced drive-by shooting." Shipnuck's article included allegations from Ashley Perez, the estranged wife of pro golfer Pat Perez, concerning alleged sexual misconduct by Mickelson during a 2015 interaction. Perez alleged that Mickelson showed her a full-body picture of himself naked with an erection while flexing one bicep and propositioned her. Mickelson's representatives stated that their version of events related to the Perez photograph missed key details and suggested a misunderstanding for which he later apologized. "Mr Mickelson's willingness to apologise for his conduct should not be misconstrued as an admission of every allegation made against him," his representative said.

The spokeswoman also stated there was no legitimate journalistic reason to include Amy Mickelson in the Skratch article, asserting, "Mrs. Mickelson is not a public figure." She added that Shipnuck "nevertheless gave anonymous sources a platform to speculate about her marriage, her motives and decisions they had no firsthand knowledge of." Shipnuck's article had reported that Amy Mickelson was the reason Phil Mickelson left the Madison Club in La Quinta, California. In response, Mickelson's spokeswoman stated that he has never been forced by his wife or any golf club to surrender his membership and that "Those decisions were his alone."

Recent reports from Golf Digest late last month indicated that Phil Mickelson resigned from a golf club in Southern California and is no longer a member at The Farms Golf Club near San Diego. Golf Digest also reported that a female employee accused Phil Mickelson of making nonconsensual and inappropriate physical contact at The Farms Golf Club in the spring of 2026. Mickelson's spokeswoman stated that he has never been expelled from a golf club and that "His membership has never been revoked by a golf club." Mickelson, who is 56 years old, denied allegations from both the Golf Digest report and Shipnuck's article through statements via his attorney, Tom Clare. Mickelson left the PGA Tour in 2022 to join the LIV Golf organization. He played one LIV tournament in South Africa in March 2026 but missed the rest of the LIV Golf schedule to prioritize a family health matter.
