AUSTIN — State Rep. Nate Schatzline resigned from the Texas House on Thursday, July 2, 2026. Schatzline accepted a position as Gov. Greg Abbott's senior adviser on election policy.

Schatzline served two terms in the Texas House, representing a Tarrant County district. Abbott's office announced that Schatzline is set to lead policy development and legislative strategy efforts related to election integrity.

Gov. Greg Abbott issued a statement on July 2, 2026, regarding Schatzline's appointment. "Nate Schatzline is a dedicated conservative leader with a proven record in the fight for election integrity," Abbott said. "His experience in the Texas House and service in the Trump administration will be a tremendous asset as we protect the voices of Texas voters."

During his tenure in the Texas House, Schatzline authored House Bill 4059 in the 2025 legislative session, a bill intended to close Texas primary elections to independent voters. This legislation was referred to the Texas House elections committee but did not receive a hearing. Schatzline did not serve on the Texas House elections committee.

In 2025, Schatzline also proposed legislation that would have restricted voting by mail in Texas exclusively to voters aged 65 or older. This bill failed to pass. No bill authored or primarily sponsored by Schatzline reached Gov. Abbott's desk for signature during his two terms.

Schatzline previously served as senior director of the National Faith Advisory Board in the Trump administration. He spoke at a November 2025 event in Abilene honoring conservative activist Charlie Kirk, where he stated that the 2020 election was stolen from President Donald Trump.
