He won his first Grand Slam main-draw match at Wimbledon in 2023.

Swan, 27 and ranked 196th, is set to play Keys, who is ranked 22nd. Keys won the 2025 Australian Open and the Eastbourne title in June 2026. Swan won two Futures tournaments in Japan in May 2026 and took a break from professional tennis in 2024 due to a persistent back injury.

Former tennis player Naomi Broady commented on Swan's performance, saying, "I love how she has gone off quietly and worked her way back to the top level." Broady also assessed the upcoming match for Keys, stating, "For me, Maddy is one of the favourites for the title." Tennis player Dan Evans observed the situation for British players, saying, "There have been some tough draws, but it certainly doesn't look good." Evans added, "I think the past few days have shown there's plenty of work to be done in our sport."
