SCHERTZ — Matthew Short, a trustee for the Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City Independent School District (SCUCISD), filed a lawsuit against the district on June 18, 2026. The lawsuit, filed in Guadalupe County District Court, names Superintendent Paige A. Meloni and School Board President Letticia Sever as defendants and seeks a temporary restraining order to restore Short's access to district property and funds.

The filing follows board actions earlier this year. In February 2026, trustees voted 6-1 to restrict Short from using district funds or facilities, except for scheduled board meetings. Short was the lone trustee who voted against the restriction. In May 2026, the board voted 5-1 to censure him.

Short, who is representing himself, stated in the filing that the employment issue with Judson ISD did not arise from his service on the SCUCISD Board. He also stated the issue did not involve a finding by SCUCISD that he violated a trustee policy or failed to perform a trustee duty.

Deanna Jackson, SCUCISD's executive director of communications, stated that the district's focus is on providing a high-quality education for the students they serve. Jackson added that the proceedings are a matter of public record and the district believes they speak for themselves.
