Hull City avoided a points deduction by complying with the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) on July 1, 2026. The club confirmed the sale of goalkeeper Ivor Pandur to Rangers for £6 million and midfielder Aidon Shehu to Panathinaikos for £2.5 million to help meet financial requirements.

Hull City had an overspend of approximately £6 million on their PSR calculation for the period ending June 30, 2026. This overspend was caused by the activation of promotion bonuses in players' contracts after the team defeated Middlesbrough in the Championship play-off final in May 2026. Prior to the new accounting period, Hull City had made no new signings due to PSR restrictions.

Hull City owner Acun Ilicali stated in June 2026, "We have overspent and we have to sell some players before 1 July." He also said, "I'm not afraid. We have managed harder things. For us, this is more manageable." Ilicali added, "Now we are a Premier League team, the values [of players] has raised up which is a good advantage."

Under EFL rules, Hull City faced a potential six-point penalty if they had breached PSR limits upon promotion to the Premier League. EFL Profit and Sustainability Rules restrict Championship clubs to maximum losses of £39 million over a three-year period. In the 2025-26 season, Ivor Pandur played in all but one of Hull City's Championship matches. Aidon Shehu is an Albanian midfielder. The EFL is phasing out PSR rules in favor of a squad cost ratio system that allows clubs to spend 85 percent of their income on the playing squad.
