SANTA BARBARA — Kevin O'Malley, a part-owner of the San Diego Padres and son of former Los Angeles Dodgers President Peter O'Malley, died at age 50 on July 1, 2026. He died from complications of sepsis while in hospice care in Santa Barbara.

O'Malley became a part-owner of the Padres in 2012. He fell ill in the fall of 2025 during a business trip in New York and subsequently returned to Los Angeles to receive medical care.

Peter O'Malley said, "Baseball was important to him. Family came first, but baseball was a close second." The elder O'Malley served as president of the Dodgers from 1970 to 1998. Kevin O'Malley's grandfather, Walter O'Malley, owned the team from 1944 to 1979 and was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame as an executive.

In the late 1990s, O'Malley worked within the Dodgers organization in Great Falls, Montana, and Vero Beach, Florida. He was a co-founder and owner of Top of the Third Inc., an entity that owned and operated minor league baseball teams including the Stockton Mudville Nine and the Visalia Rawhide.

O'Malley founded Carmelina Capital Partners in 2010, where he served as managing partner. He played baseball at Harvard-Westlake School and at the University of Pennsylvania. He earned an MBA from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania in 2004.

The Seidler and O'Malley families sold their ownership stake in the Padres in April 2026. O'Malley is survived by his wife Allison; his children Grace, Brendan, Brooke, and Margaret; his father Peter; and his sister Katherine and brother Brian. His mother, Annette, preceded him in death.
