Milwaukee held a dedication ceremony for a mural honoring late broadcaster Bob Uecker on June 30, 2026. The mural is located on the north façade of the Wintrust Financial Center building at 731 North Jackson Street.

The mural, designed by Mauricio Ramirez, measures 80 feet wide and 100 feet high. Installation of the mural began in mid-May 2026. This artwork depicts Uecker wearing a plaid blazer and includes his signature along with the nickname "Mr. Baseball."

Brewers manager Pat Murphy, Brewers outfielder Christian Yelich, and Brewers president of baseball operations Matt Arnold attended the ceremony. Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson was also present, as were members of Bob Uecker's family. Molson Coors provided Miller Lite cans, distributed to the first 500 people of legal drinking age at the event, and 500 brats were also distributed.

Bob Uecker died on January 16, 2025, at the age of 90. He broadcast Milwaukee Brewers games for 54 seasons. Two statues of Uecker are located at American Family Field.

Lane Grindle, a former broadcast partner of Bob Uecker, commented on Uecker's lasting impact. "We've always said that Ueck's legacy would echo forever, especially in this community and the baseball community," Grindle said. He added, "And this behind me is one of those echoes." Grindle also stated, "We also always said Bob is larger than life, and now he literally is exactly that."

Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson remarked on Uecker's connection to the city. "His voice, his humor, his heart, all those things became a part of us, they all became a part of Milwaukee," Johnson said.

Why It Matters

The dedication of a large mural to Bob Uecker approximately a year and a half after his death marks a civic recognition of his contributions to Milwaukee. Uecker's extensive career broadcasting for the Milwaukee Brewers, spanning 54 seasons, established his presence within the community. The mural's prominent size and location on a downtown building serve as a permanent public tribute, fitting with previous honors such as the two statues of Uecker at American Family Field.

The involvement of city officials, Brewers management, current players, and Uecker's family at the dedication ceremony shows the broad community acknowledgment of his legacy. The event incorporated elements of community celebration, including complimentary food and beverages. Artist Mauricio Ramirez previously designed a downtown mural honoring Giannis Antetokounmpo in 2022.
