MOUNT HERMON — The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced on Sunday, June 28, 2026, that the 810th Mountain Brigade has integrated an upgraded version of the Lavi Hummer into its operational use. The vehicle has been deployed on Mount Hermon and is being used in operations in Syria and Lebanon.

Maj. A, a unit commander in the 810th Mountain Brigade, described the technical specifications of the new model. "The engine is different, a turbo system that did not exist in previous models has been incorporated, alongside upgraded cooling and reinforced brakes," Maj. A said. "In addition, a new steering and ventilation system was installed, as well as LED lighting that replaced the incandescent lights."

The upgraded Lavi features increased horsepower and torque and is capable of carrying a heavier load than previous versions. Maj. A highlighted the importance of the new turbo system for high-altitude performance. "As altitude increases, the percentage of oxygen in the air drops, and just as it becomes harder for people to breathe, the same is true for the engine," he said. "This system addresses that precise need and helps it draw in air far more efficiently."

Maj. A noted the operational impact of the upgrades on mission timing. "In the past, reaching the summit of Mount Hermon would take me several minutes," he said. "Today, it takes less time." He added, "That may sound like a small change, but in an operational sector, every minute can be critical, and it can often mean the difference between a successful operation and an unsuccessful one."

The IDF stated that the initiative to replace older Hummers was not born from the latest war with Hezbollah, though the conflict accelerated its rollout. Maj. A commented on the rarity of such acquisitions. "Very few people in the military remember what it is like to receive a new Humvee," he said. Regarding the vehicle's utility, Maj. A said, "Whether it involves transporting soldiers, evacuating wounded personnel or providing logistical supplies to outposts, the difference lies in its capabilities and the confidence it provides."
