Paris police canceled a National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) protest scheduled for June 20, 2026. Authorities cited a particularly tense national and international context and the risk of violence as reasons for the cancellation.

An intelligence assessment stated that French security services warned of a heightened threat from rival monarchist activists targeting the NCRI rally. The assessment described a "war of influence" between the People's Mujahideen Organisation of Iran (PMOI/MEK) and Iranian monarchists backing Reza Pahlavi.

The assessment cited an activist, described as a prominent monarchist figure, who urged supporters to "block the route of the PMOI march." It referenced social media videos showing this figure handling a semi-automatic handgun, as well as other videos showing a 3D-printed weapon being fired.

The assessment also stated that individuals using symbols associated with the Shah-era SAVAK security service threatened to plant a bomb if the demonstration proceeded. Additionally, it warned that threats against the rally could have originated from Iranian ruling authorities acting through opportunistic proxies.

The NCRI is the political arm of the PMOI/MEK. Maryam Rajavi is the president-elect of the NCRI. Reza Pahlavi is the exiled son of the toppled shah of Iran. Iran has outlawed the NCRI, and the Iranian government has called for a crackdown on its activities in Paris, Washington, and Riyadh.

The intelligence assessment noted that Kurdish, Arab, and Baluch groups, as well as members of various tribes and communist and socialist organizations, were expected to participate in the march.
