JACKSON — Authorities in Mississippi launched a manhunt and an investigation after police discovered a two-year-old boy dead alongside his mother and aunt in Jackson on Saturday, June 27, 2026. Jackson Police Chief RaShall Brackney reported that officers responded to a 911 call concerning an aggravated assault at a residence in a neighborhood less than 16 kilometers northwest of downtown Jackson.

Hinds County Coroner Jeramiah Howard identified the victims as 25-year-old Keyana Weathersby, her two-year-old son Camari Givens, and her 30-year-old sister Erica Weathersby. All three victims sustained multiple gunshot wounds, according to Howard. Police had previously identified one victim as a 26-year-old woman.

Demarco Bailey, the brother of the victims, requested justice for his sisters and nephew. "I just need justice. Not just for my sisters, but for my nephew. He is only two and a half years old. Come on, a two-year-old?" Bailey stated. Howard also commented on the crime's impact on emergency personnel. "Every first responder, from the fire department to every police officer there, was visibly affected by how atrocious and violent this crime was," Howard said.

A red 2020 Mitsubishi Mirage belonging to one of the victims was taken from the scene during the crime. Police located the vehicle abandoned in north Jackson on Sunday night. Investigators are processing the vehicle for evidence, according to a police post on Facebook.

The Jackson Police Department stated in a press release on Sunday that detectives continue to seek clues regarding the identification and location of suspects. At a press conference that morning, Chief Brackney said, "This is an atrocious crime." She described the person responsible as "an absolute coward" and "the most vile of human beings."

These deaths mark the 39th, 40th, and 41st homicides in the city for the year, according to the Jackson Police Department. Data collected indicates that 38 of the 41 homicides reported by Jackson police in 2026 resulted from a shooting.
