MELBOURNE — Molly Meldrum did not attend the funeral of John Blackman in June 2024. Meldrum's business manager, Mark Klemens, addressed concerns about Meldrum's well-being in March, confirming his client is still alive while acknowledging health issues.
Klemens stated that Meldrum, who is 83 years old, is not as physically strong as he once was. "The reality is he's had some issues," he said. "And he's getting older - he's 83 now - and, physically, he's not as strong as he used to be." Klemens added that despite physical changes, Meldrum is comfortable and happy. "But he's comfortable, and he's happy," he said. "He hasn't lost his razor-sharp wit, and he still has a drink."
Meldrum lives in Melbourne and is cared for by his partner, Yan Wangngam. The extended period of recovery for Meldrum began after a fall from a ladder at his Melbourne home in December 2011. "The fall, it is all down to the fall, was a horrible thing to have happened," said Gavin Wood, a former announcer for the program Countdown. Blackman, a co-star of Meldrum's on Hey Hey It's Saturday, was among those who gathered at the funeral.
Meldrum also did not attend an event celebrating the 50th anniversary of ABC's Countdown, though he issued a media statement regarding the milestone. In 2022, Meldrum's public actions in front of spectators at the ChillOut Festival in Daylesford, Victoria, also drew attention.
