NEW YORK CITY — The 57th annual NYC Pride March occurred on June 28, 2026, proceeding down Fifth Avenue from Midtown to Greenwich Village under the theme 'For All of Us'. More than one million people attended the event, which started at 26th Street and Fifth Avenue and dispersed at 15th Street and Seventh Avenue. The grand marshals for the march included Peppermint, Bowen Yang, Gays Against Guns, Dominique Jackson, and Bernie Wagenblast. Heritage of Pride organized the event.
Chris Piedmont, a spokesperson for Heritage of Pride, stated, "As LGBTQIA+ events and symbols are being erased, it's vital that our community have safe spaces to show up and march to make clear: We are here." Piedmont added, "We will not be erased." Im Lynde, executive director of NYC Pride, noted, "LGBTQ+ Pride events are under attack around the world, but NYC is determined to march on." Lynde also stated, "We invite our LGBTQIA+ community from near and far to join us in the birthplace of Pride as we continue the fight for LGBTQIA+ equality - for all of us." Participants held a banner for the Marsha P Johnson Institute during the march, and Zohran Mamdani also participated.
Prior to the march, Christen Clifford spoke at a news conference regarding institutions participating in Pride events. Clifford asked, "How can you let institutions that are actively harming queer kids march in Pride?" She also stated, "I hope that New York City Pride will ban these hospitals from any future Pride parades until they restart care and so that families like mine know that you are listening to our concerns."
The Trump administration removed a rainbow Pride flag from the Stonewall National Monument earlier in 2026 before relenting during a lawsuit. Vice President JD Vance criticized Major League Baseball's response to San Francisco Giants players adding Bible verses to Pride Night caps. A judge temporarily blocked the Justice Department's demand for transgender patients' medical records from some hospitals. These hospitals in New York City had received federal Justice Department subpoenas for these records. Gays Against Guns, one of the grand marshals, was founded in response to the Pulse Nightclub shooting on June 12, 2016.
Why It Matters
The 2026 NYC Pride March occurred during ongoing discussions regarding LGBTQIA+ rights and public events. The actions of the Trump administration, Vice President JD Vance's criticism of Major League Baseball, and a judge's temporary block on Justice Department demands for medical records indicate a broader context of legislative and social challenges impacting the LGBTQIA+ community. The march, themed 'For All of Us,' served as an organized response and communal gathering in this environment.
