Scotland head coach Steve Clarke selected 19-year-old winger Findlay Curtis for the national team's final pre-World Cup training camp in March 2026. The camp included friendly matches against Japan and Ivory Coast as Scotland prepared for their first World Cup appearance in almost three decades.

Clarke called up Curtis from Kilmarnock, where the teenager was on loan from Rangers. More than two months remained until the Scotland squad would depart for the United States for the 2026 World Cup, with the team scheduled to reunite in June 2026.

Scotland assistant coach Steven Naismith praised Curtis's attributes. "He's got a bit of pace, he's direct, he commits defenders - these are all things that have caught the eye," Naismith said.

Former Celtic and Hibernian midfielder Scott Allan noted Curtis's ball-carrying ability. "When we don't have Gannon-Doak, we don't have someone who can really travel with the ball. Curtis does have that," Allan said.

Scotland qualified for the World Cup after finishing top of their qualifying group with four wins, one draw and one defeat. The team's qualification was confirmed after Denmark and Belarus drew their World Cup qualifying match. Scotland had beaten Denmark 4-2 in November during qualifying.

Curtis had been coached by former Scotland winger Neil McCann at both Rangers last season and at Kilmarnock. The winger had scored in Kilmarnock's victory over Livingston, who were bottom of the Scottish Premiership at the time.

Curtis had been excluded from the Scotland Under-21 squad for the November match against Denmark before his senior call-up. Japan became the first national team to secure qualification for the 2026 World Cup.
