SiriusXM NBA Radio shared a 38-second clip from Marks' interview on its X account on the same day, prompting Brown's response.

Marks stated, "There are mixed feelings about him when you talk to teams," regarding Brown. He added, "I had one—not an executive, but an analytics guy—saying, 'Yeah, we view him as like the 7th best player on a team.'" Marks further said, "The analytics of Jaylen Brown is not good."

NBA Central posted on X, citing Marks, that Brown's trade value was not high. Brown responded to this post, stating, "Analytics nowadays used to discredit and control narratives." He added, "Roll the ball out, none of these guys better than me on both ends." Brown also wrote to Marks, "State your source."

SiriusXM NBA Radio subsequently shared a four-minute audio clip, which it stated provided the full context for Marks' comments. SiriusXM NBA Radio host Brian Geltzeiler wrote that the original clip lacked the complete context of Marks' statement. In the fuller audio, Marks stated that Brown has played in 60 more games over the last four years, and the Boston Celtics' record is 191-80 during that period when Brown plays. Marks also said that Brown has a negative net rating over the last four years and that the Celtics were -10.6 when Brown was on the court during the current year.

Marks later wrote to Brown on X that he would want Brown on his team, adding that Brown is a top-10 player. Media commentator Stephen A. Smith also weighed in, stating that Brown is not the seventh best player on any team in the NBA. Brown averaged 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 5.6 assists in the 2025-2026 season. The Celtics included Brown in negotiations for Giannis Antetokounmpo, who was later acquired by the Miami Heat.
