MIAMI — Inter Miami announced the signing of midfielder Casemiro on Wednesday. Major League Soccer is investigating Inter Miami for alleged tampering regarding the signing of Casemiro.

Casemiro has agreed to a contract with Inter Miami through the end of the 2027 sprint season, with an option to extend through June 2029. The 34-year-old Brazilian national arrived after spending the previous four seasons playing for Manchester United.

His prior career includes winning five UEFA Champions League titles during his time with Real Madrid. On the international stage, Casemiro has earned 91 caps for the Brazil national team. He appeared in all five of Brazil's matches at the 2026 World Cup and scored a goal against Japan in the round of 32.

Casemiro’s discovery rights were held by the LA Galaxy. Inter Miami and the LA Galaxy reached a settlement for the discovery priority to sign Casemiro. Major League Soccer stated that the terms of the discovery rights settlement will be released upon conclusion of the tampering investigation.

The league also stated it is gathering all relevant information and will refrain from further comment until the review is complete. The investigation follows a precedent from 2021, when Inter Miami was fined $2 million for breaching salary cap regulations related to the signing of Blaise Matuidi.

During that prior violation, managing owner Jorge Mas was individually fined $250,000 and former sporting director Paul McDonough was suspended. The club also received a reduction of $2.27 million in allocation money for the 2022 and 2023 seasons. Major League Soccer's discovery rights system typically requires a club to pay $50,000 in General Allocation Money to acquire exclusive negotiation rights held by another team.

Inter Miami co-owner David Beckham commented on the new addition. "He is a winner who has achieved so much in the game and after such an incredible career with Real Madrid and Manchester United I’m delighted that he’s decided to make Miami his next home," Beckham said.

Beckham added, "I'm very proud to welcome Casemiro and his family to Inter Miami. He is a person and a player that I have admired for a long time." Mas also issued a statement regarding the club's direction.

"Casemiro's arrival reflects the vision and ambition that define Inter Miami. We never settle. We're always looking to grow, improve, and raise our standards every season," Mas said. He further stated, "We've built a global club with the vision of becoming not only the best club in the United States, but also a benchmark globally."

Casemiro addressed his motivation for the move. "What motivates me the most, and I think this is true for every player, is winning and continuing to grow. The project the Club presented to me, along with the effort everyone made to bring me here, means a lot to me," Casemiro said.

The midfielder expressed his intent to contribute immediately. "I'm incredibly grateful, and I can't wait to get started so I can repay that trust—not only during the 90 minutes on matchday, but every day in training as well. All I can say is thank you, and I'll give everything I have to return the affection and confidence the Club has shown me," Casemiro said. He is currently waiting on the necessary visa to debut for Inter Miami.

The signing occurs as MLS is transitioning from a spring-to-fall schedule to a summer-to-spring calendar running July through May. To facilitate this change, MLS established the 2027 Sprint Season, a one-time 14-match tournament running from February to May 2027. This tournament serves to bridge the gap between the 2026 season and the 2027–28 season. Inter Miami won the MLS Cup title in December 2025.
