MONTGOMERY, ALA. — Gunner Gibbs, a quarterback from Pike Road High School, was named the Montgomery Advertiser's preseason high school Quarterback of the Year for the 2026 season on June 26, 2026. The selection was determined by reader vote.

Gibbs, a rising junior, received 54.28% of the total votes in the poll. The Montgomery Advertiser presented the award through the Vance Law Firm.

The reader voting for the preseason high school Quarterback of the Year ran from June 21 to June 25, 2026. Readers were able to cast one vote per hour during this period.

During his sophomore season in 2025, Gibbs played for the Pike Road Patriots. The team reached the third round of the playoffs in the 2025 season before losing to Saraland.

Jayden Tyus, a quarterback from Carver-Montgomery High School, also participated in the poll. Tyus received 15.48% of the total votes.
