BARCELONA — Joan Laporta will formally begin his fourth term as president of FC Barcelona on July 1, 2026, following his victory in the club's elections on March 15, 2026. The inauguration ceremony for his new mandate will take place at Auditori 1899.

Laporta's new term faces several challenges, including the completion of the Espai Barça project. This project includes the Spotify Camp Nou stadium, which saw Barcelona return to play at their home stadium during the previous season. The third tier, VIP boxes, and full stadium capacity are anticipated to be completed during the 2026-2027 campaign. However, the installation of the stadium roof may necessitate another temporary relocation to Montjuic.

Construction for the new Palau Blaugrana, part of the larger Espai Barça initiative, is scheduled to commence in early 2027. The budget for the Espai Barça project has an estimated deviation of between €300 million and €400 million from initial projections. Barcelona secured a €1.45 billion loan in 2023 to help finance these developments. The board intends to submit a request for expanded financing to the Assembly to address these costs.

Barcelona also anticipates an income of €1.075 billion for the season concluding in 2026. The club is currently involved in the Negreira case, adding to the ongoing legal proceedings that will require oversight during Laporta's presidency. Under manager Hansi Flick, Barcelona has secured the last two La Liga titles, though the club has not won the Champions League since 2015.
