Christian McCaffrey is entering the 2024 NFL season with an average draft position (ADP) of RB3 overall and an overall-6 ranking. He recorded 450 touches in his previous season, including playoffs, marking a career high and the second-most for any running back since 2015.

McCaffrey, who was 26 years old during the 2023 season, topped 2,000 total yards in both 2022 and 2023. He has achieved over 2,000 total yards four times in his career and averaged 25.3 PPR points per game in 2023, following 20.9 PPR points per game in 2022. He has averaged at least 21 Fantasy points five times in his career.

McCaffrey's high-production seasons have been built on workloads ranging from 19.4 to 25.2 touches per game. His 450-touch season included 337 carries and 113 receptions. This was his fourth season with at least 350 touches; he stayed on the field for more than seven games in only one of his prior three seasons with at least 350 touches.

McCaffrey is the 18th running back to record 400-plus touches in a year since 2010. Ten of the 17 running backs with 400-plus touches since 2010 experienced an injury, a PPR per-game decline of at least 20%, or both, in the following season. Four of these 17 running backs maintained their PPR per-game average, while three improved their average. Nine of the 17 running backs who had 400-plus touches were at least 26 years old in their follow-up seasons, with six of those nine declining in PPR points per game or sustaining an injury.

McCaffrey played for the Carolina Panthers in 2019, a season in which he achieved at least 1,000 rushing yards and 1,000 receiving yards. He became the third player in NFL history to accomplish this feat. Jake Peetz, who was the Carolina Panthers quarterbacks coach in 2020, stated in a podcast interview that McCaffrey was one of the worst pass-blocking rushers in the league in 2019. Pro Football Focus graded McCaffrey's blocking at 75.5 in 2019, the second-highest mark in that category over his nine-year career.

McCaffrey was traded to the San Francisco 49ers three years after the 2019 season. Since joining the 49ers, he has earned three Pro Bowl selections, two first-team All-Pro nods, the AP Offensive Player of the Year award, and the AP Comeback Player of the Year award. He also had back-to-back top-five seasons in PPR points per game in 2018-19 and 2022-23.
