PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Seattle Mariners 11-1 at PNC Park on Wednesday, June 24, 2026. Pirates pitcher Braxton Ashcraft recorded 10 strikeouts and issued no walks over six innings.

Ashcraft allowed one run on five hits and threw 86 pitches. He retired the final 10 batters he faced. Ashcraft now has a 7-3 record on the season and 107 strikeouts.

The Mariners offense started with J.P. Crawford, Cal Raleigh, and Julio Rodríguez hitting consecutive singles in the first inning. Rodríguez then hit an RBI single, which was the only run for the Mariners during the game. Pirates manager Don Kelly commented on Ashcraft's performance, saying, "He's been really good for us and was again [Wednesday]." Kelly added, "Threw a ton of strikes. Got a ton of punchouts. Was efficient. Only 86 pitches through six innings. He pitched great."

The Pirates scored five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Endy Rodríguez hit a two-run double, followed by a triple from Tyler Callihan. Jake Mangum hit an RBI single, and Esmerlyn Valdez, who pinch-hit for Spencer Horwitz, also hit an RBI single. Spencer Horwitz left the game in the fourth inning due to left hamstring discomfort.

Mariners pitcher Bryan Woo allowed five runs on six hits, recorded four strikeouts, and issued two walks before being lifted at the end of the fourth inning. The Pirates extended their lead in the seventh inning, scoring four runs. Ryan O'Hearn hit a double, Endy Rodríguez hit an RBI single, and Tyler Callihan contributed with a sacrifice fly. Nick Davila pitched for the Mariners in the seventh inning.

The Pirates added two more runs in the eighth inning. Bryan Reynolds hit a double, and Ryan O'Hearn also hit a double. Alex Hoppe pitched for the Mariners in the eighth inning. O'Hearn finished the game with four hits, including three doubles, three RBIs, and two runs scored.

Braxton Ashcraft attributed his performance to the collaboration with his catcher, Endy Rodríguez. "It's a testament to Endy being able to recognize stuff — hitters' plans, deficiencies in their swing on a given day or in a given at-bat," Ashcraft said. He added, "I put a lot of trust in him to put me in a good situation, with the right pitch selection."

Carmen Mlodzinski pitched the final three innings for the Pirates, allowing no runs on two hits, with three strikeouts and no walks, earning a save. Ashcraft and Mlodzinski combined to retire 16 Mariners in a row before Julio Rodríguez's leadoff single in the ninth. Ashcraft became the first Pirates pitcher in the Modern Era (since 1901) to have two games with double-digit strikeouts and no walks in the same season, after previously striking out 11 batters with no walks against the Twins on May 31, 2026.

The Pirates' record now stands at 40-40, while the Mariners' record is 41-40. Bubba Chandler is scheduled to start for the Pirates on Thursday, June 25, 2026, against Bryce Miller for the Mariners.
